AMSERV IS OWNED AND OPERATED BY CAHABA VALLEY HEALTH SERVICES, INC. WHICH PROVIDES EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION FOR PATIENTS IN BIBB COUNTY AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THESE AREAS ARE DESIGNATED AS A MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED RURAL DISTRICT. ADDITIONALLY, AMSERV CONTINUES TO PROVIDE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MEDICAL RESCUE SUPPORT TO THE AREA DUE TO THE LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF FIRST RESPONDERS; AS A RESULT CURRENTLY OVER 50% OF THE COUNTY HAS NO FIRST RESPONDER AVAILABLE FOR ASSISTANCE. OTHER CHARITABLE SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE COMMUNITY BY AMSERV INCLUDE OFFERING MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO VARIOUS NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE FIRST RESPONDER CARE IN OUR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE DISTRICT. FURTHERMORE, AMSERV PROVIDES PRECEPTORSHIP FOR STUDENTS AT THE STATE FIRE COLLEGE AND THE LOCAL BIBB COUNTY CAREER ACADEMY. OTHER IN-KIND SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE COMMUNITY INCLUDE STAND BY TIME FOR THE BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM, BIBB COUNTY STATE PRISON, BIBB COUNTY JAIL, AND BIBB COUNTY FORESTRY SERVICES. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, WE SUPPORTED PERRY COUNTY IN LAUNCHING ITS AMBULANCE SERVICE BY PROVIDING A VEHICLE AT A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED COST OF $21,000. THIS CONTRIBUTION ENABLED THE COUNTY TO BEGIN OFFERING EMS SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY WITHIN JUST A FEW MONTHS OF ESTABLISHING THE ORGANIZATION. GIVEN CURRENT CHALLENGES IN VEHICLE PRODUCTION, ACQUIRING A NEW OR USED AMBULANCE WOULD HAVE DELAYED SERVICE IMPLEMENTATION BY EIGHT MONTHS OR MORE. OUR TIMELY ASSISTANCE HELPED BRIDGE THAT GAP AND ENSURED FASTER ACCESS TO EMERGENCY CARE FOR RESIDENTS.
