DURING THE YEAR, THE AUTHORITY SERVED AS AN INPATIENT FACILITY FOR 11,928 ADULT AND PEDIATRIC ADMISSIONS, 1,760 NEWBORN ADMISSIONS, AS WELL AS CARING FOR AMBULATORY PATIENTS INCLUDING: 2,096 OBSERVATION PATIENTS, 51,953 EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENTS, 5,430 SAME DAY SURGERY PATIENTS, 127,409 OTHER OUTPATIENT VISITS. THE AUTHORITY IS ALSO INVOLVED IN EDUCATION, RESEARCH, AND COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACTIVITIES DESIGNATED TO PROVIDE HEALTH AND WELLNESS. In March of 2018, a tornado tore through Jacksonville, destroying much of the Nursing School. After Jacksonville Medical Center was closed in June of 2018, the facility was donated to Jacksonville State University. Renovations ensued and the open house was held on 2/8/2024 for the community. The Healthcare Authority holds designations for the following: -"Baby Friendly" Hospital designation from the World Health Organization (WHO) -Blue Cross Blue Distinction Center + for Maternity Care -Blue Cross Blue Distinction Center + for Knee & Hip Replacement -AHA Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus for Stroke -AHA Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus for Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving -AHA Get with the Guidelines Silver for Resuscitation -American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Accreditation -Joint Commission Accreditation -Legacy of Hope Platinum Workplace Partners for Life Award -"Dementia Frendly" Hospital designation from the Central Alabama Aging Consortium and the Alabama Department of Senior Services
