Medical supplies and educational materials: The first help the Foundation offers to its patients starts at the hospital, when the child is diagnosed with diabetes. The Welcome Diabetes kit is sent directly to hospitals for newly diagnosed pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes ages 0-21. There is a collaborative partnership with the hospitals throughout the island where pediatric patients are diagnosed with diabetes. The kit includes diabetes medical supplies and educational materials. These kits are either delivered to the hospital room by Island Wide transportation service or personally by our staff. A total of 153 kits were delivered free of charge during the fiscal year 2024-25. This program allows us to maintain the only statistics on incidence of pediatric type 1 diabetes in Puerto Rico. The program is endorsed by the Puerto Rico Hospital Association and by the Department of Health.
