Between 2023 and 2024 CENCOR began a multiyear project with the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office PRSHPO to survey more than 21,000 properties in different Municipalities throughout Puerto Rico. The project was so successful that in January PRSHPO added 2 municipalities to our project which led to an increase of more than 8,000 properties for surveying. The project aimed to identify historic properties that can be listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the state of those buildings after recent natural disasters. The project has been led by fifteen 15 emerging professionals and students in architecture archaeology history art history and historic preservation. As part of the ongoing outreach efforts the project included celebrating over ten 10 town hall meetings around the Islands with the communities so they can learn more about the documentation and preservation efforts. Over 200 people have attended these meetings in person and virtually in 2024-2025. Additionally CENCOR in collaboration with World Monuments Fund and the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office developed a traditional woodworking and carpentry trades course and educational resources at Central Aguirre Historic District. This project funded by both organizations finished in the Summer of 2025 and provided much-needed training and access to educational resources to 10 participants. They received a certificate of completion. Lastly since 2024 CENCOR has been collaborating with ADV Architects PCS on two important projects the restoration and rehabilitation of the Central High School in Santurce and the Old San Juan Metropolitan Cathedral and the Historic Santa Ana Church. This project included training three 3 emerging professionals.

As part of CENCORs initiative for the Conservation of Heritage on Paper books and photographs -Papel se Conserva- the Art and Collections Division we finished an important 2-year project in collaboration with the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts CCAHA a non-profit regional conservation center thanks to the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities NEH. This Project included a Symposium workshops a seminar for professionals five 5 research publications three 3 fellowship opportunities for emerging professionals. Between 2024 and 2025 CENCOR developed five 5 of the expected publications celebrated over five 5 additional workshops around the Islands a webinar discussion on the preservation of photographic materials in collections through Puerto Rico.

In May 2025 CENCOR celebrated the 1st Symposium on the Preservation of paper-based collections in Puerto Rico. The event was held at the Centro para Puerto Rico of the Sila Caldern Foundation thanks to the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities NEH. The two-day Symposium gathered preservation professionals scholars librarians archivists students emerging professionals and the public to discuss issues affecting the protection and preservation of paper-based collections in Puerto Rico. The Symposium hosted 15 presentations and over 200 attendees from May 2nd through the 3rd. The event was fully recorded and will be publicly accessible on our social media pages in early 2026. Additionally CENCOR continued the development of public conferences and webinars throughout the year on topics related to the preservation of public art photographic materials and historic sites in Puerto Rico and abroad. These are free and open to the public. These conferences are being recorded and will be published on our social media channels in early 2026.
