THE PROJECT EMPOWERED VETERANS TO SHARE EXPERIENCES THEY ONCE BELIEVED WERE UNIMPORTANT, WHILE PROVIDING FAMILIES WITH MEANINGFUL RECORDINGS THAT SERVE AS LASTING LEGACIES. PUBLIC EXHIBITS AND OUTREACH EFFORTS EDUCATED HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND STUDENTS ABOUT HMONG HISTORY, AND THE ORAL HISTORIES REACHED MORE THAN 250,000 VIEWERS THROUGH SGUS WEBSITE AND YOUTUBE, STRENGTHENING AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION OF HMONG VETERANS EXPERIENCES.

THROUGH FOCUS GROUPS, COMMUNITY OUTREACH, AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, THE PROGRAM INCREASED AWARENESS OF WAR-RELATED TRAUMA AND THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE CARE. SGU PARTNERED WITH VANGUARD MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS CLINIC TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY APPROPRIATE PSYCHOTHERAPY, DELIVERING 129 THERAPY SESSIONS TO 15 CLIENTS, MANY FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING MORE THAN 40 PARTICIPANTS THROUGH GROUP AND PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL SESSIONS. OVERALL, THE PROGRAM STRENGTHENED COMMUNITY AWARENESS, REDUCED STIGMA AROUND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, AND EXPANDED ACCESS TO CULTURALLY COMPETENT CARE FOR THE HMONG SGU COMMUNITY.

SGU HOSTED A MAJOR COMMEMORATIVE EVENT AT THE MINNESOTA STATE CAPITOL GROUNDS ON MAY 14, ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 500 COMMUNITY MEMBERS, VETERANS, STUDENTS, AND LEADERS, WHILE AN EVENING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ATTRACTED OVER 300 ATTENDEES. OVERALL, THE PROJECT SUCCESSFULLY INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS OF HMONG HISTORY, PRESERVED IMPORTANT CULTURAL STORIES, AND STRENGTHENED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACROSS MINNESOTA.
