Our efforts focus on reducing hunger and loneliness among the older adults. The Senior Meal Program began in 2011 with serving breakfast when two seniors that lost their spouses experienced a decline in health and deep loneliness. We had to do something. Breakfast provided a stepping stone to resocialization and lonliness abatement. Our first sponsor, Shawnee Milling Company remains a sponsor today. They provide food products they manufacture in what ever quantities requested. Successive grants from Walmart State Giving were awarded and allowed expanding to provide a lunch service. Meals include fresh fruits and vegetables in healthy recipes which align with our Certified Healthy Oklahoma status. If our clients can eat breakfast or lunch here, they can easily prepare a cold supper. We provide breakfast at no charge and lunch for 2, and scholarships for those who can not afford the cost. Meals provide opportunity for social interaction, which for many is more important than the food. We want our people to become involved when they become involved they get active then live longer.
