HUMANE SOCIETY OF PAGOSA SPRINGS

In 2025, the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs rescued and provided safe haven for over 420 dogs and cats. The organization found homes for 275 petseach one spayed or neutered as needed, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for any illnesses.An additional 29 pets were transferred to larger no-kill shelters, where they were successfully adopted. 112 lost cats and dogs were reunited with their families.In our continued effort to reduce overpopulation and unwanted litters of pets, 426 spay/neuter surgeries were performed, 235 were completed for community animals through various voucher programs, totaling $35,313. An additional $10,000 was spent on community pets emergency medical care, ensuring these animals received the life-saving care needed to keep them in their homes and avoid euthanasia.Our shelter provided long-term safekeeping to 11 pets through our partnerships with domestic violence service providers and county law enforcement.The shelter also responded to a hoarding situation, rescuing over 40 cats and one dog, getting them out of the cold winter conditions and into the safety of the shelter.HSPS hosted two successful low-cost vaccine clinics, providing core vaccines to more than 200 community pets. Through its food bank program, HSPS distributed free pet food to people in need within the community.New management staffing at the shelter helped implement a robust and effective enrichment program, ensuring animals are provided the highest level of care and training possiblereducing stress and encouraging well-being while in our care.The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs Thrift Store successfully navigated the challenges of Highway 160 construction, reducing the impact of lost parking and traffic delays by 30% of what was projected. We opened an uptown donation center, allowing donors to continue contributing items and keeping overall donations in line with previous years.The organization hosted its most successful fundraising galathe 31st Annual Auction for the Animals Pet Fashion Showexceeding its goal of $50,000 in net revenue. It was an exciting and meaningful evening of sharing our stories and introducing some of the animals in our care to our loyal and compassionate supporters.
