Medical Institute for Sexual Health is a nonprofit health organization that equips people worldwide with medically accurate information to make well-educated decisions about their sexual health. In addition to our research team, graduate interns contributed significant research, helping us expand the reach and impact of our work Costs of Transgender Hormones and Surgery Research by Amy Hamilton calculated the potential lifetime costs of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for transgender-identifying youth, with projections ranging from hundreds of thousands to nearly a million dollars per patient. Transgender Research: Five Things Every Parent and Policy-Maker Should Know (Drafted in 2023): This paper reviews the rise of gender dysphoria among youth, critiques the strength of studies supporting medical interventions for minors, and calls for counseling and watchful waiting over early medical transition. Abortion Pill Complications Medical Institute is conducting secondary research that builds on The Abortion Pill Harms Women study, which found that more than 10% of women using mifepristone experienced serious adverse events-far exceeding FDA-cited rates. Our work aims to quantify risks for sepsis, infection, and hemorrhage with precision. STD Wizard Updates In 2025, Medical Institute reviewed and updated the STD Wizard, a free, confidential online tool that helps users, especially teens and young adults-assess STD risk and receive evidence-based testing recommendations. Every month, over one thousand people take the STD Wizard Risk Assessment. In 2025, we welcomed three graduate interns from Liberty University who assisted with critical research and education projects. Each intern shared their findings through staff presentations, advancing our mission by developing the next generation of public health leaders * Developed infographics for providers and female patients on syphilis prevention and treatment. * Authored a continuing education course for nurses on HPV and cancer, in both English and Spanish, and researched accreditation requirements for Nursing Education courses * Authored a continuing education course for nurses on HPV and cancer, in both English and Spanish, and researched accreditation requirements for Nursing Education courses. Also in 2025, Amy Hamilton, a researcher at Medical Institute authored and submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in Chiles v. Salazar challenging Colorado's ban on "conversion therapy" for minors. The brief argued that the law imposes a one-sided viewpoint, restricting counseling options and infringing on free speech, religious liberty, and client autonomy. Marketing & Communications Medical Institute launched a new email newsletter in Fall 2025, sharing the latest research, tips for parents and families, and invitations to upcoming events. Our new website launched in December 2025, offering visitors easier access to research, articles, and resources on sexual health and overall well-being.
