Great Wall China Adoption (Great Wall)/Children of All Nations (CAN) Program Service Accomplishments in this year: 1. ADOPTION SERVICES. Great Wall/CAN provides adoption assessment services and post adoption supervision services to adoptive families and adoptees. Our services to families and children include counseling, screening, background checks, adoptive family suitability assessment, and post adoption supervision and support. The process is comprised of application, adoption training by our licensed service providers, home study, post adoption supervision, and family support. 2. HOMELAND TOUR. Great Wall/CAN organizes homeland tours attended by the adoptive families and their adoptees annually. Homeland tour gives the adoptees an opportunity to visit their homeland, visit their former care takers, the orphanages, and towns where they were born. 3. ADOPTEE CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM. Great Wall/CAN partners with an international adoption organization in Europe and hosts a reciprocal adoptee hosting program during the summer. All participants are Chinese and Asia adoptees adopted by families from the US and Europe. Adoptees from the US and Europe are provided with unique and exclusive cultural learning experience. 4. EXCHANGE STUDENT PROGRAM. Every school year, we select a group of highly qualified exchange students from different countries to study in the American high schools. Many of the exchange students are hosted by adoptive families who have adopted from the students' home countries. This program promotes the cultural and educational exchange between U.S. and the rest of the world. Great Wall/CAN also sends outreach newsletters intended to increase awareness of our cultural exchange program to the public and provide our organization's program news and updates. 5. CROSS-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES. Great Wall/CAN exchange student program aims to create cross-cultural understanding, global awareness, language proficiency and impacts on US local communities. As our exchange students are spread all over the country. Our approach to cross-cultural activities is directly working with our host families each month to provide them with recommended activities and ideas so they can engage their exchange students in cross-cultural activities. Our host families provide a variety of cross-cultural activities for the exchange students. This includes typical Halloween trick or treating, going to Christmas bazaars, learning to make traditional American foods, celebrating New Year's Eve and 4th of July. The exchange students also participate in high school dances, graduation ceremony, graduation retreat including prom. Many of our students have heard a lot about US high school football games and the excitement the games offer even prior to coming to the US. They attend their high school games and their area college football games. Some students even had a chance to attend NFL games and had personal meetings with former NFL players and tried on their Super Bowl rings. Visiting New York City seems to be one of the top destinations for exchange students. Our students traveled to New York City and saw all the sites of the Big Apple including Time Squares, Statue of Liberty, and Rockefeller Center. 6. ACHIEVEMENTS THAT ARE NOT MEASURABLE. Great Wall/CAN's adoption programs have contributed greatly to better the life of children and improvement of orphanage conditions. We have witnessed many orphanages that we have worked with in the last decades transformed from poor conditions into a full-service children's home with adequate facilities and well-trained caretakers. We believe that every child deserves love and a home they can call their own. The children are shown with endless love by their adoptive families. Physically and developmentally, they blossom like flowers after being adopted. Many of our adoptive parents sought our help after years of painful infertility treatment. The joy and excitement of becoming a parent are just beyond description. For these infertile parent(s), it's a lifetime dream coming true. For Great Wall/CAN staff, creating families for children and adoptive parents is our greatest achievement. The impact of Great Wall/CAN's adoption programs, adoptee cultural exchange programs, and homeland tours is immeasurable. These programs significantly raise awareness of the thousands of orphaned children who continue to wait in orphanages for loving and permanent homes. Great Wall/CAN exchange student program connects the cultures between our host families, adoptive families and the exchange students, and plays an important role in improving relations between the US and other nations. The program has contributed to enhance cross cultural understanding and mutual respect between our country and the rest of the world. Our international students have brought their culture and goodwill to our host families while our host families are able to experience other cultures right at home. Great Wall/CAN's charitable work has inspired individuals who share the organization's mission and are committed to making meaningful contributions to society through service, compassion, and positive social impact.
