The Friends of the San Marcos Public Library pledged to provide $1,000,000 to pay for furniture for the expansion. This allowed the city construction funds to be more efficiently used. The Friends pays for the library subscription to Flipster Online Magazines. The subscription includes access to 50 full-text magazines for children, teens, and adults. Flipster is able to provide concurrent use so there is no limit to the number of customers who can read the newest edition each month. Many titles are only available digitally so this expands the use of the library's periodical collection to over 3,000 items per month.
The Friends provides two copiers for the patrons of the library for a small fee. These expenses are for the rental of the machines and the necessary supplies.
