Through its website, special functions and newsletter, East Lake Pet Orphanage informs and educates the public about the importance of spaying and neutering and micro-chipping all companion animals. It also provides information and educational resources to the public about properly caring for a pet and the importance of wellness care. In addition, the children's library is available to children 7 days a week. This experience improves the children's reading abilities and provides them a deeper understanding of all aspects of responsible pet ownership. In addition, East Lake Pet Orphanage uses its resources to educate the community and then to engage the community to help reduce the euthanasia rate and to assist in the rate of adoptions of companion animals. Through its Vet for a Day program, children are allowed to see what veterinarians really do. This experience provides each child with a behind the scenes look at the roll a veterinarian plays in the care of family pets.
