Catastrophic Theatre Inc

The Catastrophic Theatre produced five plays during our 2023/2024 season. Samuel Beckett's absurdist masterpiece, Waiting For Godot, directed by Catastrophic Founding Artistic Director Jason Nodler, opened our season to sold-out houses and critical acclaim. Waiting For Godot featured Catastrophic core artists Greg Dean, Charlie Scott, Kyle Sturdivant, and Troy Schulze, reprising their roles from our 2014 production. The rest of the season included the world premiere of Afsaneh Aayani's experimental adaptation of the gothic novella "The Turn of the Screw," featuring puppetry and live-streamed video, Catastrophic favorite Mickle Maher's raucously imaginative It Is Magic, directed by Jeff Miller, a comedic mash-up of Macbeth and The Three Little Pigs, Sarah Kane's explosive and controversial Cleansed, making its American premiere, and rounding out the season was the world premiere of Tamarie's Texas Toast, the latest installment of Producing Artistic Director Tamarie Cooper's only-in-Houston, cult- sensation summer musicals. We reached over 5,000 people and employed more than 150 artists. We also worked with local high schools, community colleges, and university undergraduate and graduate programs to provide master classes, on-site lectures, personal and professional mentorships, and targeted post-show question and answer sessions with student groups. The Catastrophic Theatre is Houston's first and only avant-garde theatre with a 30-year record of successful risk-taking. The Houston Chronicle recently identified us as "Houston's Boldest Theater."
