Impacting lives through golf, the northern California PGA Foundations flagship program, PGA HOPE, provides a year-round golf program as therapeutic rehabilitation for military veterans. The lifetime sport of golf has proven to be an excellent activity to help heal and assimilate our veterans back into their community through the social interaction the game provides. For many injured veterans, adaptive sports provide their first exposure to physical activity after injury. It is a fact that suicide is a major issue among military veterans, which recent statistics showing that 22 veterans a day commit suicide. PGA HOPE is working to change this statistic. Through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VAs recreational therapists are able to refer veterans to the PGA Hope program as a form of therapy the only sports program the VA supports with this powerful endorsement.
