Mediation:The Dispute Resolution Center of Montgomery County (DRC-MC) offers in-person, Zoom, and hybrid mediations. A majority of people request Zoom and hybrid mediations that are more labor intensive and time consuming for staff. Therefore, the DRC-MC cannot conduct as many mediations as it did when all mediations were conducted in-person prior to the pandemic. Despite these challenges, the DRC-MC still conducted mediations that affected over 4,200 individuals, families, businesses and/or governmental entities in FY 2024-2025. In addition to removing a significant number of cases from the Montgomery County court dockets through settlements, DRC-MC mediators also prevented community disputes from escalating by helping people to peacefully resolve their disputes, rebuild relationships and restore communications. Significantly, the DRC-MC provided no cost (i.e., pro bono) mediations for victims of child abuse/neglect, low-income families, and victims of domestic violence who could not afford to pay mediation fees. During FY 2024-2025, DRC-MC mediators completed 361 pro bono mediations. Peer Mediation programs, which the DRC-MC helped to establish at three (3) Montgomery County high schools, enabled trained student mediators to assist their peers to resolve disputes peacefully through mediation. DRC-MC volunteers contributed over $250,000 worth of volunteer time to the community in FY 2024-2025.

Training/Education and Outreach:A large number of people seek mediation training via Zoom. This online training is more time intensive for staff/trainers/mentors because of complicated logistics planning, and technical assistance required. Despite these challenges, the DRC-MC still provided/sponsored over 182 hours of mediation related training to approximately 1850 individuals. During FY 2024-2025, the DRC-MC conducted (1) 40 Hour General Mediation Training classes; (2) Advanced Family Mediation Training classes; (3) in-person two (2)day Peace Camps for students in Grades 3-12; (4) multi-session conflict resolution training sessions for Justice System Referred youngsters and their parents; (5) a two (2) day conflict resolution training program for high school student interns in the EfTA program; and (6) conflict resolution training for foreign exchange students. In addition, the DRC-MC provided and/or sponsored custom designed conflict resolution trainings for Lone Star College-Montgomery, Texas Association for Court Administrators, Angel Reach, and the SHSU Mediation and Legal Services Office. Nearly 1800 students in grades K-8 participated in the DRC-MC's 2025 Conflict Resolution Bookmark Art Contest and the DRC-MC distributed nearly 45,000 bookmarks supporting peaceful conflict resolution across Montgomery County. To date, over 15,000 students have participated in the DRC-MC's Conflict Resolution Bookmark Art Contest and the DRC-MC has distributed over 120,000 bookmarks with peacebuilding messages in Montgomery County. The DRC-MC received the BBB Award for Excellence, Business of Distinction and Top Rated Non-Profit designation from Great Non-Profits during FY 2024-2025.
