CAVALRY, a veteran-led nonprofit, operates a Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program in Project Management with a mission to educate and empower opportunity youth, disabled veterans, students with special needs, underemployed individuals, and Title 1 students. Our programs are focused on helping individuals living at or below the poverty line in San Antonio, Texas, become financially self-sufficient through workforce training and career preparation. Over the past year, CAVALRY significantly expanded its workforce development initiatives, quadrupling the size of its pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs in project management. Participants begin with a structured pre-apprenticeship phase, where they receive hands-on training, mentorship, and foundational certification, followed by advancement to a paid apprenticeship with increasing responsibility and access to career pathways. Through this progression, participants earn nationally recognized credentials, including the Project Management Ready certification, with a pass rate exceeding 95%. Apprentices then engage in real-world projects that serve the community and strengthen their professional portfolios. These efforts collectively generated a documented economic impact of over $320,000 through community-based projects and volunteer-led events. CAVALRY maintains active partnerships with over 150 employer organizations across multiple sectors, providing participants with direct pathways into great-paying jobs. These employer partners play a vital role in mentoring apprentices, offering project-based learning opportunities, and hiring graduates into sustainable roles aligned with their skills and certifications. As a result, participants reduce their dependency on public assistance and gain long-term financial independence.
