IMAGINE SCIENCE FILMS CORP

FILM FESTIVAL:Our primary operation in 2021 was the 14th Imagine Science Film Festival, which took place from October 15 - 22, 2021. The festival encompassed 28 film programs including short and feature film screenings, panel discussions, performances, live presentations. This year we had over 1,000 submissions of films and from those, we selected 64 films from 28 countries. There were four components to the festival: 1. Films 2. Conversations ( Online and in-person ) 3. Symbiosis 4. Science New Wave (SNW) - This is its first year and the idea was to show films that are work-in-progress and that would fit in the open call that we did for supporting projects that are in development stages. Also to give away grants to them. This is supported by a Warner Media fund, we received. We called it the Science New Wave Development fund. For the 2021 festival, we kicked off with a screening and discussion of the filmmakers of We Are As Gods, our opening film - which happened online, as our kick-off event. Over the course of eight days, we had 21 online conversations, provocative documentaries that explored the intersection of science and society, compelling scientific fiction, mesmerizing scientific imagery, and engaging film experiments. We had 46 shorts, 6 world premieres, 1 international premiere. We had 2 in-person events: Then the SNW event at BRIC, where we had 9 different projects. These were films that were part of the festival. And the Closing Night Awards Event at New Lab. We had new awards this year, one of them being the Science New Wave award which was given to a feature that we feel was the boldest in terms of storytelling and format, in this case, went to the film called Holgut, which is a docu-fiction about the extinction. We had around 10,000 people total attending the festival combining both online and in-person.Other satellite projects filled out the year. Most of these collaborations were online because of the pandemic. We helped organize a program of films for Harvard in NYC.

SCIENCE NEW WAVE:IN 2021 IMAGINE SCIENCE STARTED A NEW PROGRAM CALLED SCIENCE NEW WAVE. THE SCIENCE NEW WAVE IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SUPPORT TO SINGULAR FILM PROJECTS THAT DEMONSTRATE BOLD AND INVENTIVE COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN SCIENTIST AND FILMMAKERS. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE GRANTS RANGING FROM $2,500 TO ,$25.000 TO SUPPORT ALL TYPES OF FILM PORJECTS AT VARIOUS STAGES INCLUDING FICTION, DOCUMENTARY, HYBRID AND MORE. IN 2021, IMAGINE SCIENCE FILMS AWARDED ONE OF THE SCIENTISTS $2,000 UNDER THIS PROGRAM.
