In 2023, Essie Justice Group provided leadership development and healing justice programming for women with incarcerated loved ones in California and across the country, and conducted community advocacy. Essie Justice Group ran 9 Healing to Advocacy program cohorts, graduating 65 women with incarcerated loved ones from this program. We conducted two leadership development trainings for program facilitators; prepared 29 members to lead a cohort of our Healing to Advocacy program via our Facilitators Training Program; advanced policy goals with lawmakers and worked in partnership with a coalition in local advocacy work to secure 1,000 mental health beds in a Los Angeles county jail.
