BIG SANDY MEDICAL CENTER PROVIDES BOTH ACUTE AND SWING BED PATIENT SERVICES UNDER ONE ROOF. THE SWING BED PROGRAM HAS TWO PARTS, SKILLED AND INTERMEDIATE CARE. SKILLED SWING BED PATIENTS ARE HERE FROM 2-6 WEEKS IN WHICH THEY RECEIVED SKILLED NURSING SERVICES AND/OR SKILLED REHAB SERVICES. THE MAJORITY OF SWING BED PATIENTS ARE IN THE INTERMEDIATE CATEGORY AND REQUIRE LONG-TERM NURSING CARE SERVICES. TYPICALLY, THE MEDICAL CENTER'S 25 BED CAPACITY FLUCTUATES AROUND 80% FULL.BIG SANDY MEDICAL CENTER HAS A CERTIFIED RURAL HEALTH CLINIC. IDEALLY, THE CLINIC IS STAFFED WITH 3 PROVIDERS, HOWEVER, WITH A NATIONAL PROVIDER SHORTAGE, THE CLINIC OFTEN UTILIZES SHORT-TERM TRAVELING PROVIDERS. THE CLINIC AVERAGES 10-12 PATIENTS A DAY SEEING A VARIETY OF AILMENTS FROM COUGHS TO CHRONIC DISEASE CONDITIONS.BIG SANDY MEDICAL CENTER PROVIDES AMAZING PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES FOR ITS COMMUNITY RESIDENTS. WITH A LONG-TERM LOCAL PHYSICAL THERAPIST ON STAFF, THE PROGRAM IS WELL RECEIVED AND HIGHLY UTILIZED.
