TENT Ministries, Inc. began its 12-month long initiative called Healthy Heart Bushwick in November of 2023. The program provided fresh produce to food insecure men and women within the Bushwick community, encouraging the use of food as medicine. One hundred and fifty participants struggling with hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and/or heart disease were provided with groceries weekly. We also provided free wellness, cooking, and fitness classes to participants and followed their health outcomes throughout the program. We also worked with local organizations to rescue and deliver food maximizing the impact of the program. The 12-month program ran from November of 2023 through November of 2024. At the programs end, 31,200 meals were distributed, 40,000 pounds of food was redistributed, and 150 families were served.
