The MATE II World ROV (remotely operated vehicle or underwater robot) competition challenges students to learn and creatively apply STEM skills to solve real-world problems and strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Each spring, more than 6,000 students in grades 4-16 participate in one of 46 regional events around the world(www.materovcompetition.org) and feed into the World Championship which was held in June 2023. The organization also conducts summer camps and teacher workshops to provide training for competition participants. The organization runs an online enterprise, the SeaMATE store which sells educational remotely operated vehicle kits and parts to competition participants and others. The store fulfilled 493 orders from 344 customers.
