APLD HAS SOUGHT TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON LEGIONNAIRES' DISEASE THROUGH THE COMPANY'S WEBSITE. THE WEBSITE CONTAINS DETAILED, UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON THE CAUSES OF THE DISEASE AND AVAILABLE METHODS OF PREVENTION, INCLUDING SOURCE WATER TREATMENT, MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENT OF PUBLIC WATER DISTRIBUTION AND BUILDING WATER SYSTEMS, WATER EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT, OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION, AND RESEARCH. THE WEBSITE ALSO PROVIDES ONGOING NEWS COVERAGE OF REPORTED CASES OF THE DISEASE AS WELL AS ADVOCACY ENDEAVORS BY APLD AND OTHER ACTIVISTS. APLD HAS ENGAGED WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND PARTICIPATED IN ACADEMIC, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND WATER INDUSTRY CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS RELATED TO THE DISEASE. AS PART OF THESE EFFORTS, APLD HAS CONTRIBUTED TESTIMONIALS AND PRESENTATIONS TO VARIOUS BODIES INCLUDING PUBLIC AGENCIES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH CARE, AND WATER QUALITY, STATE LEGISLATORS AND STAFF, WATER SYSTEM AUTHORITIES AND ADMINISTRATORS, STATE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP AND ADVISORS, OPEN HEARINGS ON WATER QUALITY AND PATHOGENS, FACILITY OWNERS AND OPERATORS, HOSPITALS AND SENIOR LIVING FACILITY OPERATORS, AND OTHERS.IN 2023, APLD CONTINUED TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE FACT THAT 96% OF ALL LEGIONNAIRES' CASES ARE DEFINED AS "INDIVIDUAL AND SPORADIC" (UNASSOCIATED WITH OUTBREAKS) AND FIND ROOT CAUSE LEGISLATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT. IN ADDITION, A DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR WAS HIRED TO EXPAND APLD'S BANDWIDTH. APLD PURSUED POLICIES IN VARIOUS STATES INCLUDING NEW JERSEY, MARYLAND, ILLINOIS AND PENNSYLVANIA THAT PRIORITIZE UPSTREAM WATER MANAGEMENT AS A PRIMARY LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST LEGIONELLA.
