River: Los Angeles State Historic Park in Chinatown Northeast DTLA; Rio de Los Angeles State Park in Cypress Park; and the Bowtie Parcel the former G1 Railyard in Glassell Park that will soon become the third River adjacent State Park. We protect and enhance the community cultural natural and historic resources of the River Parks.

Habitat Restoration & Stewardship: In 2024 LA River State Park Partners LARSPP supported the ongoing habitat restoration and stewardship work at the LA River State Parks creating climate resilient landscapes for both people and wildlife along our unique stretch of the river. We work collaboratively with State Park staff and local community groups and organizations on programs and events. In 2024 these included Earth Day Climate Action! at Rio de Los Angeles 4.21.24 creating habitat for the endangered Least Bells Vireo and other local wildlife as well as ongoing bird-focused restoration at Rio with partners Audubon at Debs Park Terremoto Test Plots and the California State Park Foundation. We installed nesting season signage at Rio for the first time and worked closely with District colleagues to plan for further improvements at Rio for landscape maintenance and endangered species conservation. We also foster and help manage ongoing volunteerism and community engagement with neighborhood schools and groups such as Sotomayor HS CalCreative Everlasting Education and LA Works.

Community Programs: In 2024 LARSPP helped plan organize staff promote and build audiences for the State Parks Community Engagement programs First Friday Campfires Art in the Park and the Promotorx Community Liaison Program now called Community Engagement Fellows including their culminating project Brunch in the Park. We also supported food assistance and community engagement for the LA River Farmers Market Tai Chair classes and food distribution for local seniors with partner APIForward Movement and the programs and events of other key park partners including the annual Kite Festival and School Workshops Bob Baker Day and FEMMES: A Happening.

Advocacy: As part of a broad coalition advocating for equitable green space in Northeast LA in 2024 LARSPP successfully worked to protect our parks from encroachment and development threats including a proposed aerial gondola through LA State Historic Park that would degrade the parks southern third. We also supported park infrastructure and development including the long-sought Ann St. crosswalk over Spring St. at LA State Historic Park The Nature Conservancys Bowtie Demonstration Project and the work of the 100-acre Partnership and Taylor Yard Equity Strategy.
