THE ORGANIZATION WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF HONORING HEAD FOOTBALL COACH WALTER "PETE" ANTIMARINO, WHO COACHED FOOTBALL AT GATEWAY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, IN MONROEVILLE, PA, FROM 1958 THROUGH 1990, BY AWARDING A SCHOLARSHIP TO ONE OR MORE GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT PLAYED FOOTBALL AND EXHIBITED THE LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS, ON AND OFF THE FIELD, THAT COACH ANTIMARINO FELT WERE SO IMPORTANT WHEN BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL PROGRAM AND TO ASSIST THOSE STUDENT-ATHLETES IN DEFERRING SOME OF THE COSTS OF ATTENDING A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY TO FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION. COACH ANTIMARINO PASSED AWAY IN 2017 AT THE AGE OF 91.
