Mission

Partners in Skills' (PIS) mission is to provide training for women in high-tech who would otherwise not have such an opportunity. PIS does not maintain a staff that has the knowledge and ability to train women in this area and thus contracts with an existing third-party business to provide classrooms, teachers, and manage the courses. Additionally, because the courses are taken over a period of only one year, the graduates often have difficulty finding employment. Hence, to provide employers with an incentive to hire PIS's funded graduates, PIS commits to employers to help pay the first year salary of graduates that are accepted as interns on the condition that the employers will provide mentoring and further training for the graduates. This allows them to put into practice and enhance the skills they have learned, and benefit from a mentor or supervisor's experience and advice, thus paving the way for future employment and making it easier to integrate into the high-tech work force.
