PTIO hosted a roundtable that examined autonomous vehicles and workforce development through an equity-minded focus. The roundtable brought together diverse perspectives from leading think tanks, NGOs, and other organizations for a moderated discussion on the impacts and opportunities that AV technology will have on communities of color, including workforce development. The objective of the event was to initiate a dialogue on how to leverage public policy proposals to prepare communities of color for the opportunities and changes that AVs will bring, as well as to gain valuable perspectives to ensure equitable workforce outcomes.

PTIO served on a stakeholder advisory board supporting a multi-year, NSF-funded research project at Michigan State and Clemson universities. The research team was studying the impact that AVs may have on certain professions and is particularly focused on mapping skill considerations against existing occupations and those that are emerging or that may emerge in the future.

PTIO continued its work engaging with a variety of stakeholders to advance a dialogue around autonomous vehicles and the workforce, particularly with respect to the public policy objectives that can connect the individuals with new careers and opportunities in an autonomous vehicle future. PTIO continued discussions with other nonprofits and associations, academics, and policymakers to educate them on the principles laid out in PTIO's workforce policy agenda, as well as the areas where more research and information is needed.
