SUMMER HEALTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SHIP):SHIP IS A SIX-WEEK OPPORTUNITY FOR UNDERREPRESENTED AND/OR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED HIGH SCHOOL AND EARLY COLLEGE STUDENTS. THIS PROGRAM EXPOSES STUDENTS TO A VARIETY OF CAREERS IN THE HEALTH FIELD AS WELL AS VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES AFFECTING THEIR COMMUNITIES. SELECTED PARTICIPANTS ARE COMMITTED TO WORK AT THEIR DESIGNATED CLINIC OR HOSPITAL FOR THREE DAYS (3) A WEEK FROM 9:30 AM TO 3:30 PM. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A MANDATORY WORKSHOP (DIDACTICS) ONCE A WEEK.THE WORKSHOPS ENCOMPASS A FULL DAY (9:30 AM TO 3:30 PM) AND INCLUDES: HEALTH RELATED LECTURES, JOB READINESS SKILLS, FIELD TRIPS, AND OTHER HEALTH RELATED ACTIVITIES. SELECTED PARTICIPANTS ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO TAKE PART IN A TEAM COLLABORATED HEALTH THEMED PROJECT. AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM, THE PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A MANDATORY CLOSING CEREMONY, AND PRESENT HIS/HER FINAL PROJECT.HEALTH CAREERS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (HCIP):THIS IS A SIX-WEEK INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR UPPER LEVEL COLLEGE STUDENTS IN COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH CENTERS AND HEALTH RELATED ORGANIZATIONS. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN WEEKLY DIDACTIC SESSIONS WITH 2ND YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE EXPOSED TO RELEVANT COMMUNITY HEALTH ISSUES WITHIN THE INTERSECTION OF THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH.OPIOID PREVENTION EDUCATION PROJECT (OPEP):THIS INTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL TRAINING VIA PARTNERSHIPS WITH VARIOUS CBO'S AND CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK INSTITUTIONS, BW-AHEC WAS ABLE TO BRING AWARENESS AND SUPPORT RESOURCES TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS, YOUTH, THEIR FAMILIES, AND PROFESSIONALS.
