Josephines Place provides programs and activities to serve the needs of women in an economically poor area. Our services are free. Not only do we provide skills-based classes but we focus on the total woman to build confidence, foster personal growth, be better equipped to meet the challenges of day-to-day life, and to realize ones potential. We do this through educational, cultural, and life skills training and programs. Our most popular classes are our English as a second language (ESL) where 96% of our women are Latina. We offer job readiness programs to give them skills to enter the workforce such as computer training, interviewing prep, resume writing, and job application assistance. We take great pride in their accomplishments. Many of our women have taken our citizenship test prep and are now proud U.S. citizens. In addition to professional development, Josephines Place mentors and counsels in an individual/small group setting. We provide support groups for mothers with autistic and special needs children, victims of domestic violence, and Madre to Madre on topics that effect ones everyday life. In the sppirit of learning new skills that tap into ones creativity, we offer sessions in arts & crafts, painting, sewing and quilting, knitting/crochet, and much more. We also host many cultural gatherings to promote camaraderie and inclusiveness. Our cultural events promote sharing, inclusiveness, and community building amongst the women. Healthy living is an important focus for finding a mind, body, soul balance in ones life. We offer yoga, tai chi, exercise classes, and workshops on healthy life style/ healthy eating and ways to relieve stress. Our hydroponic garden and outside courtyard garden produces vegetables and herbs for the women to share with their families.
