Sequoia seeks to lessen the burden on the United States federal government to advance the interoperability of different electronic health information technologies to support the safe and secure sharing of electronic health information for the benefit of all Americans. This is a top priority of the federal government and Sequoia works to support these efforts in the following ways: (1) serving as the Recognized Coordinating Entity to the Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) / National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to develop the Common Agreement for ONC's Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement; (2) under separate Management and Support Services Agreements provide support to Healtheway, Inc. and Carequality, Inc. (501(c)(3) exempt organizations) in operating their own independent health information exchanges endeavors (3) serving as a convenor of the diverse stakeholders that are involved in the access, exchange and use of electronic health information to help develop consensus solutions to the complex challenges that serve as barriers to the seamless exchange of electronic health information among those who have the legal right to access the information and have a valid need for the information, and; (4) serve as a trusted nationwide authority for education on important topics related to electronic health information issues.
