Animal Rescue - The Sanctuary has remained highly active in rescuing large carnivores throughout the United States and from many other countries around the world. The Sanctuary operates a fleet of specialized rescue equipment and highly trained staff to rescue animals that were suffering or facing death on a daily basis. The Sanctuary successfully rescued more than 700 animals from numerous roadside zoos, private owners and court-ordered confiscations which included working with the U.S. Department of Justice to rescue an entire AZA zoos population in Puerto Rico. Many of the animal species from Puerto Rico were flown to numerous locations throughout the United States for placement in species-specific facilities. A large number of the animals came to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in order to help transition them into its large acreage free roaming habitats
