THE NATIONAL AHEC ORGANIZATION'S CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS PROVIDE A FORUM FOR AHEC PROGRAM OFFICES AND CENTERS AND THEIR SUPPORTING NETWORKS TO PROMOTE THE AREA HEALTH EDUCATION SYSTEM AND IMPROVE THE SUPPLY, DISTRIBUTION, AND QUALITY OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS, AND AID IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NETWORKING AND COMMUNICATION AMONGST THE AHEC PROGRAM OFFICES AND CENTERS. THE NATIONAL AHEC ORGANIZATION PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ONGOING AHEC PROGRAMS AND THEIR AFFILIATED CENTERS WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF IDENTIFYING AND ENHANCING PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND DATA COLLECTION EFFORTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL GRANTEES OF THE NATIONAL AHEC PROGRAM. THE NATIONAL AHEC ORGANIZATION ASSISTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GRASSROOTS AND ADVOCACY CAPABILITIES IN ORDER TO INCREASE CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE AHEC PROGRAM, PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO PROVIDE INPUT DURING THE ANNUAL APPROPRIATIONS PROCESS FOR THE AHEC PROGRAM AND OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONS TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND APPRAISES OPPORTUNITIES TO POTENTIALLY IMPACT LEGISLATION DEALING WITH THE AHEC PROGRAM.
