THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR DOWNTOWN DORAL CHARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, INC. AND DOWNTOWN DORAL CHARTER UPPER SCHOOL, INC (THE "SCHOOLS"). THE SCHOOLS ARE A PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE SCHOOLS AND MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD. THE SCHOOLS HAVE THREE LANGUAGE TRACKS, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE AND FRENCH. WITHIN EACH TRACK, THERE ARE TWO PROGRAMS, THE BILINGUAL EDUCATION ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM (BEAP) AND THE BILINGUAL EDUCATION STUDIES PROGRAM (BESP). BEAP SERVES STUDENTS WHO ARE MATRICULATING FROM ELEMENTARY AND ARE ALREADY PROFICIENT IN THE LANGUAGES OF SPANISH, PORTUGUESE OR FRENCH. NEW STUDENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THROUGH A SCREENING TEST THAT THEY ARE PROFICIENT IN THE LANGUAGE TRACK THEY ARE APPLYING FOR WILL BE ABLE TO ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM AS WELL. BEAP OFFERS MORE ADVANCED SPANISH, PORTUGUESE AND FRENCH COURSES, INCLUDING HUMANITIES COURSES IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN ELEMENTARY AND AP COURSES IN UPPER SCHOOL. BESP SERVES STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE SCHOOL AND DO NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE. STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THIS PROGRAM ARE EXPOSED TO TWO FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES PER YEAR, BUT THE COURSES ARE NOT AS ADVANCED AS THE OTHER PROGRAM. ALL STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF THE PROGRAM, ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME FULLY BILINGUAL AND BICULTURAL BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATE. THROUGH THE COURSES AND SCHOOL-WIDE ACTIVITIES, STUDENTS WILL BE IMMERSED IN THE SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, AND FRENCH CULTURES, ALLOWING THEM TO DEVELOP BICULTURALISM.
