SFC VIRGINIA'S INTAKE, FOSTER, AND ADOPTION PROGRAMS FORM THE CORE OF OUR ORGANIZATION, AND 2024 CONTINUED OUR TREND OF YEAR-OVER-YEAR GROWTH. THROUGH THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, WE BROUGHT 2195 ANIMALS INTO OUR RESCUE, THE MAJORITY OF WHICH CAME TO US FROM RURAL AND UNDERSERVED SHELTERS ACROSS THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. WE FOUND ADOPTIVE HOMES FOR A TOTAL OF 2004 ANIMALS, INCLUDING 844 CATS AND 1160 DOGS. SINCE OUR FORMATION IN JULY OF 2019, SFC VIRGINIA HAS SAVED OVER 9500 ANIMALS, THE VAST MAJORITY OF WHICH HAVE BEEN ADOPTED INTO LOVING HOMES. JUST OVER 180 ANIMALS REMAINED IN OUR CARE AS OF DECEMBER 2024, AND THEY WILL REMAIN IN FOSTER CARE WITH OUR TEAM UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN ADOPTIVE HOMES. AS PART OF OUR PROGRAMMING, ALL ANIMALS RECEIVE VACCINATIONS, PREVENTATIVE TREATMENTS, AND SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES IN ADDITION TO ANY LIFE-SAVING SURGERIES OR TREATMENTS THEY REQUIRE TO THRIVE IN A NEW HOME PRIOR TO THE TIME OF ADOPTION. WE ALSO MAINTAIN A ROBUST FOSTER PROGRAM, WHICH, IS CRITICAL TO OUR ABILITY TO SAVE ANIMALS FROM SHELTERS AS WE DO NOT HAVE A LARGE FACILITY FOR HOUSING AND LONG-TERM CARE. OUR FOSTER PARENTS DIRECTLY IMPACT THE NUMBER OF ANIMALS WE CAN BRING INTO OUR ORGANIZATION. IN 2024, WE ONBOARDED 152 NEW FOSTER PARENTS. ADDITIONALLY, OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS A CORE ASPECT OF OUR PROGRAM THAT ENABLES US TO SUPPORT THE ANIMALS IN OUR CARE AS WELL AS SOURCE NEW ADOPTIVE HOMES. OUR NEWLY REVAMPED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM HAS BROUGHT IN 143 NEW VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT 2024. FINALLY, WE MAINTAIN A VERY ACTIVE TRANSPORT PROGRAM, WITH SFC VOLUNTEERS, STAFF, AND VEHICLES SERVING AS THE PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION FOR THE MAJORITY OF OUR INCOMING ANIMALS. WE SPEND 10-25 HOURS A WEEK DRIVING PETS FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THE STATE, AND FREQUENTLY COLLABORATE WITH OTHER VA RESCUES TO PICK UP AND DROP OFF THEIR INCOMING ANIMALS AS WELL IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE MORE LIVES.
