The Healing Justice Foundation is a national philanthropic non-profit with roots in Minnesota. HJF provides individuals, families, organizations, and communities with resources to provide urgent healing support to Black people. We seek to be the Red Cross for Black and Brown communities in the aftermath of traumatic events including police involved shootings, COVID-19 and racial injustice.

Healing Programs: In 2025, through the support of foundations and individual donors, HJF contributed to 3 main healing programs: Co-Sponsoring: Provides financial resources to organizations that center Black Liberation, Black Joy and Healing Justice. This year, Healing Justice Foundation collaborated with 2 institutions: Joe Davis Poetry developed a new program and community: Finding Your Freedom Practice: Wellness Through the Arts. Finding Your Freedom Practice: Wellness Through the Arts is an interactive workshop and performance experience that integrates spoken word poetry, movement, mindfulness, and music to promote mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Rooted in Black cultural traditions and healing justice principles, the program guides participants through reflective writing, embodied storytelling, and creative expression as tools for self-awareness and community connection. Participants learn practical strategies for stress relief, emotional regulation, and collective healing through the arts. The grant helped contribute to the curriculum development and pay collaborative healing artists and wellness facilitators. The 6th Annual PUSH Fitness Triathlon in Saint Paul is a welcoming entry point for athletes of color. Founded by Connie Sheehan six years ago, the event at Lilydale Pool & Yacht Club centers physical accessibility, relay options, and community support. This year HJF has been honored to sponsor up to 30 Black-identified participants, expanding participation from our communities. PUSH's goal is to build community, camaraderie, health, wellness, and physical fitness. The Healing Justice Foundation supported individuals to each do one event as part of a relay team. The swim is first, then bike, and finally run/walk. Dr. Joi Mutual Aid HJF Liberatory Fund: 17 mutual aid grants were provided to support individual Black Healers and organizers to stand in the gap as needed. Black Joy Radical Self-Care Grant: Provided financial resources to 6 Black Twin Cities Healers Organizations. These programs provided approximately 500 Black individuals and organizations working with the community with the necessary resources to extend their support or determine their own healing journeys. This was not about prescribing what should be done, but letting the wisdom of individuals and communities determine what was needed.
