Accomplishments of the Peruvian Outreach Project 2024Aldea Infantil Virgen del Pilar OrphanageThe Peruvian Outreach Project continues to support the Music Workshop at the orphanage as well as the other projects that POP has developed. The regional government has now taken over the responsibility for the instructors pay and the children continue to receive instruction in music three times a week. POP also provided a Christmas Celebration for the children at the Aldea which included special food, entertainment, games and gifts. POP purchased three computers to be used in the on site school for the children to improve their computation skills. Materials were provided to support the sewing workshop at the orphanage set up by POP two years ago.Hogar Hermelinda Home for Young WomenThe Peruvian Outreach Project (POP) continued to provide room and board as well as tuition, and transportation for the six participants in the Hogar Hermelinda Program. The home provides a secure and supportive environment for the young women who are studying to become nurses. These women come from rural areas of the Amazon from families with few financial resources. They continued to proceed through their studies to become nurses including completing required practicums. All six young women will graduate in 2025 and six new participants will be selected for the program. Childrens Center for Integrated ServicesThe Peruvian Outreach Project has initiated planning for a new program which will take place in the city of Trujillo, Peru. POP will work with a local non-profit called Illary Sumaq which has been established to set up a center to provide identification and evaluation of children with learning differences who are struggling in a school setting. These children will come from areas of high poverty where children with disabilities rarely receive any services. The center will work with teachers and families as well as the children to provide assistance to improve their educational experience. This program is in its initial phase. POP has developed a Memorandum of Understanding or a Convenio de Hermanidad with Illary Sumaq. The program began in March of 2025 with four children exhibiting autism and some speech impairments. This program provides the only support that these children receive. There is a great need for these services in Peru.
