THE ORGANIZATION'S EMERGENCY HARDSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES SHORT-TERM EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS. THE CHARITABLE CLASS SERVED BY THE EMERGENCY HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS SUFFICIENTLY LARGE AND/OR INDEFINITE BECAUSE IT IS AN ONGOING PROGRAM THAT IS OPEN TO FORMER OR CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF LE BERNARDIN FACING EMERGENCY OR FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE RECIPIENTS OF AID ARE SELECTED BASED ON AN OBJECTIVE DETERMINATION OF NEED, INCLUDING CONSIDERATION OF INDIVIDUALS' DIFFICULTY MEETING BASIC NEEDS DUE TO LOSS OF JOB AND WAGES. ONE-TIME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS RANGE FROM $500 $2,500 EACH, WHICH AMOUNTS ARE INTENDED TO ONLY SUPPORT THE BASIC NEEDS OF THE INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILIES IMPACTED. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PAYMENTS PROVIDED DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ALSO CONSTITUTE QUALIFIED DISASTER RELIEF PAYMENTS UNDER SECTION 139 OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE, FOR USE TO COVER REASONABLE AND NECESSARY PERSONAL, FAMILY, LIVING, OR FUNERAL EXPENSES INCURRED AS A RESULT OF A QUALIFIED DISASTER.
