Neighbors Who Care NWC recruits and orients volunteers to provide nonmedical assistive services to homebound and disabled seniors allowing them to continue living and aging independently in their own homes. NWC serves a population of homebound and/or frail older adults who meet the definition of disabled under current federal law. Our 427 active volunteers provide services such as transportation to medical appointments, access to groceries or other errands, meal delivery, small home repairs, business assistance, reassurance phone calls, friendly visits, caregiver respite, and a facilitated caregiver support group. NWC also provides follow-up for vulnerable seniors upon discharge from medical facilities, receiving referrals from case workers. During the 12/31/2024 year, our volunteers supplied more than 7,500 hours of assistance, driving more than 60,000 miles to assist 467 individuals on more than 7,500 occasions, permitting them to remain in their homes for an average of five additional years. When NWCs most vulnerable clients encounter emergency situations such as faulty air conditioners, broken hot water tanks, or other broken essential home service items, NWC established an emergency financial assistance program to fund such needs in a nimble and quick manner. During FYE 12/31/2024, NWC assisted one approved client to keep up with help in securing Maricopa County Utility Assistance and additional NWC financial assistance in addressing a mounting electric bill.
