Community Based Public Safety Collective Inc

In 2023, the CBPS Collective provided training and technical assistance to hundreds of community-based organizations nationally, in addition to cities and municipalities, states, and the federal government. Through the CAPS program, the Collective completed training and technical assistance plans for 12 community violence intervention organizations (CVI); served as a funding intermediary to disburse funds to Newark and Baton Rouge CVI agencies; trained CVI organizations on violence intervention; assisted with launching new programs, and, secured new funding for CVI organizations in Baton Rouge and Newark. As the training and technical assistance provider for the USDOJ Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI), the Collective provides training and technical assistance to 46 federal grantees, including community-based organizations, municipal agencies, and law enforcement. CVIPI is providing TTA to a total of 75 CBOs, municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and state governments across 29 states. The Collective launched a three-month, small learning cohort, with 12 participating municipalities, along with their academic research partners and community stakeholders, to address local needs around data management and systems.Through Project Turn in Los Angeles City, the Collective supports CVI workers with the stress and vicarious trauma of violence interruption workThe Collective's Watts Shared Safety Initiative is a Watts (CA) specific violence reduction strategy pilot that deploys 20 new "fellows" to support safe passage and conflict mediation in the 4 Watts housing developments and 3 local schools. The Los Angeles County Peer to Peer Learning Academy, run by the Collective, provides an array of training opportunities to the CVI organizations in LA. The Collective supported CVI work in Norfolk, VA; Chesapeake, VA, Trenton, NJ, and Wilmington, DE.The CBPS Collective engaged 336 practitioners from over 250 organizations nationally through webinars focusing on improved operations and new knowledge across the following focus areas- sustainability, victims compensation, participatory research, and communications and narrative change, resulting in a more robust community based public safety ecosystem. We have learned that our community of practitioners is eager to advance this work. Our charge is to focus on their concerns and tailor our offerings to meet their needs.
