CCIs English Literacy program innovatively teaches English and workplace skills to refugee students enhancing their life skills. The ELL services include: Beginner Literacy for those with limited English proficiency focusing on reading writing speaking and listening. High Beginning and Intermediate courses improve overall language skills. English Language for Citizenship offers language and civic knowledge for US citizenship application. English Language for Civic Rights and Responsibilities workshops cover American political systems and rights aiding in democratic participation and immigration navigation. Guest speakers include local officials employers financial experts and FoodShare advocates. Field trips to local businesses and the Milwaukee Public Library provide experiential learning. Outreach events recruit new refugees including citizenship celebrations and World Refugee Day participation. Transportation assistance is provided through gas cards. Translation services are available for various program activities. Referrals to other agencies support participants needs including legal services for green card and citizenship applications.

In 2022 CCI obtained Department of Justice certification to provide immigration legal services enhancing refugee access to affordable aid and ensuring fairness in the naturalization process. CCIs experts assist immigrants in obtaining permanent residency such as green cards and guide them through the U.S. citizenship journey. Services include document preparation for green cards and citizenship applications assistance with the naturalization exam and accompanying individuals to citizenship interviews. Notable achievements involve helping 400 refugees gain U.S. citizenship and aiding over 800 refugees in green card applications since starting our immigration services. To address citizenship challenges for immigrants with disabilities CCI offers health services through our legal department. We assist disabled refugees in obtaining medical exam exemptions accessing vaccines and connecting with primary care providers.

CCIs Citizenship education program teaches the language skills and civics knowledge necessary to obtain US citizenship and become an active member of the community. Our courses build personal confidence and encourage the use of English in practical situations outside the classroom. We leverage a team of experienced instructors to deliver educational programming to hard-to-reach limited literate learners. Additionally to overcome barriers to adult education we provide transportation childcare and online classes.
