IN 2024, WIICT CONTINUOUSLY CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON AND PROVIDED 4 DIFFERENT MRNAS TO ITS COLLABORATORS AT NIH CLINICAL CANCER CENTER IN BETHESDA, MD FOR EVALUATION AND USE IN CLINICAL RESEARCH AND IN DIFFERENT PHASE 1 OR PHASE 1/2 HUMAN CLINICAL TRIALS. ONE OF THESE MRNAS ENCODES THE ACTIVE FORM OF A PROTEIN THAT IS INACTIVE OR LACKING IN ONE TYPE OF IMMUNE CELL OF PATIENTS HAVING A CERTAIN PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY (PID) DUE TO A MUTATION IN THE GENE THAT IS REQUIRED TO KILL MICROBIAL OR VIRAL PATHOGENS WITH WHICH THE PATIENT BECOMES INFECTED (ON AVERAGE EVERY 2-3 YRS). THIS TRIAL IS TESTING WHETHER PATIENTS CAN BE TREATED BY TRANSFECTING THE MRNA ENCODING THE ACTIVE PROTEIN INTO DEFECTIVE IMMUNE CELLS FROM THE PATIENT'S OWN BLOOD AND THEN REINTRODUCING THOSE TRANSFECTED CELLS INTO THE PATIENT. IN 2024, WIICT ALSO DESIGNED, MADE AND CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON THE YIELDS, PURITIES, ACTIVITIES, FUNCTIONS AND PROPERTIES OF MULTIPLE DIFFERENT BASE EDITING ENZYMES, GENE EDITING ENZYMES, AND BXB1 RECOMBINASE VARIANTS, WHICH MRNAS WERE PROVIDED TO OUR COLLABORATORS AND NIH, MASS GENERAL HOSPITAL AND ST JUDE'S CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL FOR THEIR EVALUATION AND RESEARCH RE ON- TARGET AND OFF-TARGET EDITING OF DIFFERENT GENES AND MUTATIONS IN HUMAN CELLS OR ANIMAL MODELS TO GENERATE DATA TO SUPPORT INDS FOR PHASE 1 OR PHASE 1/2 HUMAN CLINICAL TRIALS, INCLUDING BY USING DIFFERENT GUIDE RNAS AND OTHER CONDITIONS AND PARAMETERS TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL EDITING OF SPECIFIC GENES AND MUTATIONS.
