Bio-Cultural Diversity Programs - BEK focused on several significant projects aimed at preserving Blackfoot culture and ecological knowledge. A major initiative was the implementation of the Blackfoot curriculum reconnecting participants with Blackfoot bio-cultural diversity. This curriculum includes learning modules rooted in the teachings and values of our people, designed to be shared with tribal programs, schools, and organizations. The partnership conducted a total of 18 sessions serving over 22 participants and their families who were clients of holistic justice court programs. Additionally, BEK supported the Blackfoot Eco Knowledge Shield Keepers in their work to preserve traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) through direct engagement with 15 elders, logging 300 hours of learning activities. BEK also facilitated the Buffalo Program, where Shield Keepers helped with field tasks such as fencing, hauling feed, and monitoring the newly released herd in the Chief Mountain protected area. These projects focused on revitalizing traditional knowledge, connecting community members with their heritage, and enhancing cultural resilience. Finally, BEK engaged in the development of VR/XR Immersive experience of a historic Buffalo Driveline. The first phase conducted this year was developing the partnerships and agreements with the University of Montana and Dreamscape Learn who will be implementing the second phase of the project in developing the experience. Each effort played a critical role in strengthening Blackfoot identity.
