In 2024, Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation updated its NTEE classification to P80 - Services to Promote the Independence of Specific Populations: Developmentally Disabled to more accurately reflect the scope and purpose of our work. While our organization utilizes inclusive recreation, social events, sports, and community-based programs as a primary modality, the central focus of our mission is to support the growth, inclusion, and well-being of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our services are specifically designed to promote the independence, self-determination, and community participation of individuals with I/DD. This includes both individualized services (such as Community Inclusion, Specialized Habilitation, and Community Engagement) and small group activities offered in natural community settings, not a facility. Previously, Sequoia TR was classified under the general NTEE code N99 ("Other Recreation & Sports"), which did not fully represent our core service population or the developmental support goals embedded in our mission. Updating to P80 ensures consistency across IRS filings, public records, and grant applications, and it aligns us with similar organizations serving the IDD community. This change does not reflect a shift in programming, but rather a clarification of our focus and intent. Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation remains committed to cultivating confidence, friendships, joy, and respect for individuals with I/DD and their families through meaningful, inclusive, community-based engagement. In 2024, Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation served 133 unduplicated clients through 46 diverse activities, providing 1,462 hours of engagement and socialization to 670 registrations in various community-based activities and events. These programs fostered meaningful connections and provided opportunities for personal growth and community inclusion. Sequoia Therapeutic Recreation's vision is to be a well-respected and trusted provider in Tacoma and Pierce County. We aim to expand services and address gaps through strategic partnerships, ensuring sustained support and accessibility for individuals with I/DD and their families.
