MANY RESIDENTS ARE FROM FAMILIES WHO IMMIGRATED TO FORT COLLINS FROM MEXICO AND HAVE LIVED IN THE COMMUNITY FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS, PRIMARILY WORKING IN MINIMUM-WAGE AND MANUAL LABOR JOBS. THE STATE OF COLORADO HAS WORKED TO PASS LEGISLATION TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF MOBILE HOME PARK RESIDENTS. UNITED NEIGHBORS/VECINOS UNIDOS (UN/VU) WAS FORMED IN 2021 TO SUPPORT NUEVA VIDA (FORMERLY PARKLANE) MOBILE HOME PARK RESIDENTS TO PURCHASE THE PARK, MAINTAIN ITS AFFORDABILITY, AND ESTABLISH A RESIDENT OWNERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE MODEL. NUEVA VIDA BECAME ONLY THE SIXTH MOBILE HOME PARK IN THE STATE TO MOVE TO RESIDENT GOVERNANCE/OWNERSHIP AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THIS WAS THE RESULT OF A RIGOROUS COMMUNITY ORGANIZING EFFORT LED BY AND FOR RESIDENTS. THE ROLE OF THE UN/VU BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS TO SUPPORT WHAT THE RESIDENTS OF NUEVA VIDA WANT TO ACHIEVE FOR THEIR COMMUNITY, NOW AND IN THE FUTURE. CURRENTLY, UN/VU IS FOCUSING ITS EFFORTS ON INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS AND COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE.
