2023 was an exciting year Apparent Winds. In January, our crew set sail from San Diego to conduct our first marine cetacean research expedition. We hosted six cetacean biologists aboard with a mission to find and study Killer whales in the Sea of Cortez. In addition, we interviewed and filmed with local activists working to protect the local environment and specifically whales in that area. Next, we set sail for Panama and worked with the indigenous community of Guna Yala on the Caribbean side of Panama. We worked with locals to learn and film videos about their culture and challenges they face in regard to climate change. The islands of Guna Yala are extremely low lying and will be among the first land masses to go under water in the Caribbean sea. In addition, the region is facing drought and drinking water has become far scarcer. After sailing to South Carolina to regroup, we set sail for Maine. While in Maine we worked with many groups ranging from cetacean biologists, lobstermen, indigenous leaders and community leaders. The stories we collected not only were produced and made
