THE PURPLE HEART PROJECT PROVIDES COMBAT-WOUNDED VETERANS EXPERIENCING THE LASTING EFFECTS OF COMBAT WITH HEALING THROUGH TRADITIONAL HAND-TOOL WOODWORKING. EACH YEAR, 42 SELECTED VETERANS PARTICIPATE IN A WEEK-LONG INTENSIVE TRAINING WHERE THEY RECEIVE INSTRUCTION, TOOLS, TRANSPORTATION, LODGING, AND MEALS. AFTER TRAINING, PARTICIPANTS ARE PAIRED WITH A VOLUNTEER WOODWORKING MENTOR WHO BUILDS AND DELIVERS A CUSTOM WORKBENCH AND PROVIDES ONGOING GUIDANCE. CONTINUED SUPPORT IS OFFERED THROUGH AN ONLINE COMMUNITY THAT FOSTERS MENTORSHIP, CONNECTION, AND PERSONAL GROWTH.
