The development of a guide titled, "Power to the Patient: Proactive Primer for Hospital Patients and Their Advocates", designed to educate patients (particularly those facing the prospect of end-of-life care) about their rights and legal authority. This includes drafting a sample legal contract that can serve as an alternative to the oft-used "advance directive", titled "Proactive Directive: Power of Attorney for Health Care and Advance Health Care Directive". This contract is being designed to empower the patient by granting a trusted advocate the patient's full authority to access information and direct care according to the patient's desires whenever treatment renders the patient temporarily incapacitated.
