Drought mitigation: Providing emergency relief and long-term solutions for animals suffering through drought. In Botswana, ASI worked with local partners to mitigate the effects of drought on animals, including: providing food for hippos whose food sources had disappeared; constructing a water trough for thirsty animals; installing a pump and solar panels at an existing borehole, increasing output from 20,000-30,000 liters per day to 50,000-60,000 per day; upgrading an existing borehole to increase operational time by at least eight hours daily; and installing a solar-powered pump at another waterhole where animals were getting trapped in the mud due to the drought. In Zimbabwe, we repaired a vandalized substation that resulted in a water outage at our partner's sanctuary. Global reach: Supporting wild animals worldwide. Through our international arm, we support wildlife conservation and protection projects in various countries across Africa, Asia and Europe.
