IN 2023, ACACIA PROVIDED 1443 FREE MEDICAL AND DENTAL SERVICES TO RURAL, UNDERSERVED, UNINSURED, INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND CHILDREN (AGES 4 AND ABOVE). THE GEOGRAPHIC FOOTPRINT SPANS 216 SQUARE MILES OF WESTERN COMAL COUNTY INCLUDING THE RURAL COMMUNITIES OF BULVERDE AND SPRING BRANCH. ALL PATIENTS SERVED LIVE AT OR BELOW THE 200% POVERTY LEVEL TO INCLUDE THE HOMELESS.MOST PATIENTS ARE BEING TREATED FOR CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS, SUCH AS HEART DISEASE, DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, HYPER-CHOLESTEROL AND ARTHRITIS. AT LEAST 80% OF PATIENTS ARE DIAGNOSED WITH THE MOST PREVENTABLE CAUSE OF DEATH AND DISEASE IN THE WORLD CALLED OBESITYGENDER: 58% FEMALE; 42% MALE.ETHNICITY: ALTHOUGH THE COUNTY IS ONLY 23% HISPANIC, 51% OF OUR PATIENTS ARE HISPANIC SINGLE MOTHERS AND THE MAJORITY ARE SPANISH SPEAKING ONLY; 40% ARE NON-HISPANIC; 1% BLACK/AFRICAN AMERICAN AND 8% UNKNOWNAGE: 79% OF PATIENTS ARE 19-59 YEARS. CIRCUMSTANCE: 36% OF PEOPLE SERVED ARE HOMELESS, LIVING ON THE STREETS OF COMAL COUNTY OR RESIDING IN A TEMPORARY SHELTER.SPECIAL POPULATIONS: 6% OF PATIENTS ARE CHILDREN AND 15% ARE SENIOR CITIZENS (65+).
