OUR FOCUS IS ON EDUCATING, INSPIRING, AND ACTIVATING THE GRASS ROOTS COMMUNITY TO BECOME CHAMPIONS FOR CYCLING. BIKE NWA DEVELOPED THE FIRST BICYCLE SAFETY CURRICULM FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN ARKANSAS. INTEGRATED INTO REGULAR SCHEDULED PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES, THIS PROGRAM TEACHES STUDENTS HOW TO RIDE SAFELY ON ROADS AND SOFT- AND HARD-SURFACE TRAILS THROUGH CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND ON-BIKE TRAINING. BIKENWA SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR THE INCLUSION OF BIKE-SPECIFIC ADDITIONS TO THE ARKANSAS STATE DRIVER'S EDUCATION MANUAL, THEREBY ENSURING THAT NEW DRIVERS ARE AWARE OF CYCLISTS AND FULLY APPRISED OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO SHARE THE ROAD. BIKENWA LED EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH BIKE/WALK ARKANSAS, A STATEWIDE BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN COALITION REPRESENTING ADVOCACY AND USER GROUPS FROM AROUND ARKANSAS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO INCREASING BIKE/PED ACCESS THROUGHOUT THE NATURAL STATE. BIKENWA PARTNERED WITH THE LOCAL RUNNING COMMUNITY TOLAUNCH TRAVEL WITH CARE NWA, A REGIONAL INITIATIVE COMMITTED TO RAISING SAFETY AWARENESS AMOUNG MOTORISTS, CYCLISTS, RUNNERS, AND PEDESTRIANS. BIKENWA VISITED SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT NORTHWEST ARKANSAS AND SHARED A MESSAGE OF SAFETY WITH OVER 2,000 STUDENTS, RANGING IN AGE FROM 5-13.
