Fresh Help Maui expanded its efforts to strengthen Mauis local food system by supporting both food-insecure families and the islands small boat fishing community. Through our fish redistribution and community partnership programs, Fresh Help Maui purchased and processed locally caught fish from 20+ local fishers, helping create a dependable market for their catch while ensuring fresh, high-quality protein remained within the community. These efforts allowed us to distribute thousands of meals to close 1200 families across Maui, many of whom continue to face food insecurity in the wake of economic hardship and the long-term impacts of the Lahaina fires. By connecting local fishermen directly with families in need, Fresh Help Maui continues to build a sustainable, community-based food network that supports local livelihoods, reduces food waste, and improves access to nutritious food. This model strengthens Mauis resilience by ensuring that locally harvested seafood directly benefits the families and communities who call the island home.
