The Black Gems in STEM Summer Program is charged with introducing students to science, technology, engineering, and math topics, building their self-efficacy in STEM fields, and engaging them in hands-on activities that prepare them to be able to successfully pursue STEM careers. In the 2025 program, we served 18 students over the course of two weeks. The students learned math concepts, strengthened reading skills, and intentionally engaged in topics including: diet and biochemistry; clockmaking; electric circuits; chemistry in cosmetics; coding; and soil science. The outcomes include: exposure to 10 individuals in STEM to support the development of self-efficacy; 10 volunteers (of which three gained community service hours); 10 STEM activities; 6 paid instructors - thus supporting local employment; 87.5% Good or Excellent rating for the program; 6 field trips
